High-volume hotels: in-house laundry or outsourcing?

A large hotel in Marrakech or Agadir processes hundreds of kilos of sheets, towels and restaurant linen every day. At that level the question arises: should linen go to an outside laundry or be processed on site?
What outsourcing brings, and what it costs
Outsourcing avoids investing and managing a team. In return, the hotel depends on its provider’s turnaround, ties up a larger stock of linen and has less control over the finish.
The criteria for deciding
- The full cost per kilo: water, energy, detergent, labour, depreciation.
- The space available and the building’s connections.
- How regular volumes are over the year.
- The finish expected for sheets and table linen.
A well-sized in-house laundry
An on-site installation combines high-capacity washer extractors, tumble dryers and a flatwork ironer. Properly sized, it gives the hotel control over its turnaround.
